Multi-Currency Invoicing: How to Bill International Clients in 120+ Currencies
If you work with international clients, billing in their currency gets you paid faster and avoids confusion. Here's how to handle multi-currency invoicing without the headache.
Why Bill in Your Client's Currency
Clients pay faster when they see an amount in their own currency. A $5,000 invoice is clear to an American. A 4,200 invoice without a currency symbol is confusing. Billing in the client's currency eliminates confusion, shows professionalism, and prevents disputes over exchange rates.
How Multi-Currency Works in Invo
Invo supports 120+ currencies with automatic symbol and decimal formatting. Select any currency when creating an invoice — USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, CHF, AUD, CAD, INR, BRL, and 111 more. The invoice PDF automatically formats amounts with the correct symbol, decimal separator, and thousands grouping for that currency.
Currency + Payment Links
When you generate a Stripe payment link, it uses the currency you selected on the invoice. If you bill in GBP, the Stripe checkout shows GBP. Your client pays in GBP, and Stripe handles the conversion to your settlement currency (typically USD or EUR depending on your Stripe account's country). Stripe's FX fee is about 1% for currency conversion.
Handling Exchange Rates
You have two approaches: bill in the client's currency and absorb FX risk, or bill in your currency and let the client handle conversion. For amounts under $10,000, billing in the client's currency is generally better for relationships. For larger contracts, specify an exchange rate in your agreement or bill in your home currency.
Multi-Language + Multi-Currency
Invo supports 10 languages for invoice labels. Combine this with multi-currency for a fully localized invoice: a French client gets an invoice in EUR with French labels (Facture, Montant, Total). A Japanese client gets JPY with Japanese labels. This level of localization is rare in free tools.
